Snowshoe Up, Ski Down (Without Switching Equipment)

Introducing the hybrid Hive snowshoe; the next generation. They still have a wide area for the feet to spread weight around, just like any other snowshoe - but unlike its peers, the Hive converts into skis.

"A set of spikes on the underside coupled with a fanged metal crampon provide the traction you'll need whether in deep powder or slick ice," says the article. Then those crampons are retracted when the bindings are locked down, while the underside spikes are attached to a plate that folds up, creating a smooth skiing surface.
